A wellbeing platform where the employer cannot see the member.
Not will not. Cannot. Devout Ltd is a United Kingdom company building devout.me, a preventive, non-clinical wellbeing platform for adults. Our first pilot is with the staff of a primary school.
Wellbeing tools that let an employer see individual data stop working, because the people most at risk are the least likely to be honest with something their employer can read. So we built it the other way round. Then we checked whether the places we send people actually exist.
We read every page ourselves. This is what we found.
When somebody is struggling, we point them somewhere. So every service devout.me points to is verified on that organisation’s own website. Never a directory, never a council list, never a search result. Those are where the errors live.
One hundred and forty-three findings, each dated, each traced to the page it came from. Fifteen would have caused harm. Four of those:
A suicide prevention charity entered administration. One month later its helpline number was still published as live by two NHS bodies, two local authorities, a local mental health charity and a national one.
One national bereavement helpline, four published sets of opening hours. Two of them, including a health service page, erased the only evening slot in the week. School staff cannot ring during the working day, so that was the one slot they could have used.
A free NHS talking therapies service most of a city’s school staff cannot use. Access requires registration with a GP inside that city. Not living there. Not working there. Thousands who teach in the city are registered elsewhere.
A council’s former statutory web address for families of disabled children now resolves to a page promoting online casinos operating outside the self-exclusion scheme. The address is still widely cited.
The pattern matters more than the examples. Nobody published a falsehood. Facts decayed and nothing expired. One stale page from a trusted source is copied into dozens of charity and council listings, because the sector reasonably treats it as authoritative. Sources contradict each other and nobody arbitrates.
Building the thing the checking proved is missing.
Mapping what exists against the circles of an adult life produced an uncomfortable result. Some states are well served. Several are not served at all.
Exhausted
Of the services reachable by someone with nothing left, most are debt and money advice. What the sector reliably offers a depleted person is a debt line. There is nothing anywhere for I am functioning and I am empty.
Grieving
Five services across three counties. Waiting lists described in months. Most require the death to have been of a particular kind, or a prior connection to a hospice.
Menopause
No free human route found anywhere in the United Kingdom. The only one identified is paid.
Separation
The life event arriving with the heaviest administrative load, and no verified route at all.
Thriving
Nothing, by definition. Signposting begins when something is wrong.
Too early for clinical. Too tired for a helpline. That is the space devout.me is built for, and the register is the evidence that it is vacant.
How it is built
- Individual records stay with the member. Never visible to an employer or a sponsor.
- Organisations receive aggregate insight only, above a minimum group size enforced in the database rather than in policy.
- No individual-level employer dashboards. No screen, no export and no support request produces one.
- Accounts belong to the person, not to a work email address, so access travels with them.
- Entries expire. A record nobody has checked recently is not shown, however good it looked when written.
- Signposted, never accredited. We verify public facts and surface them as information. We do not imply we have vetted anyone.
We publish what the method cannot do. No entry has been tested by telephone, so a service that is open, correctly listed and simply too busy would pass every check we make. That is the largest gap in the method and we record it as one.
We are looking for practitioners.
Counsellors, coaches, mediators, menopause specialists, bereavement practitioners, financial wellbeing advisers, facilitators. People already doing this work who want to reach the person who has not yet reached crisis, and who is currently reaching nobody.
What makes this different from being listed in a directory. The member chooses you; nothing is inferred about them and nothing is pushed at them. Your entry is verified at source and kept current. Participation is never visible to anyone’s employer. And you are helping design the offer rather than filling a slot in somebody else’s.
- You hold your own professional standing. We verify what is publicly verifiable and say plainly that we have not vetted you beyond that.
- Language capability is recorded as you state it, in your words, never inferred from a name or a postcode. Of 113 services checked earlier this year, seven named the languages they could actually work in.
- Cost is stated before contact. Free, or the real price. We found services where only the free part was priced.
- Entry cost matters as much as quality. We order what a member sees by how hard it is to walk through the door, because an exhausted person cannot use an excellent service with a high one.
If you work in one of the spaces above, or you think we have the gap wrong, we would like to hear from you.
04 Also talking to
- Employers interested in workforce wellbeing their people will actually use, because it is not visible to them.
- Universities, about independent evaluation of the measurement, and of how quickly published service information decays.
- People who build and run secure systems in the United Kingdom.
And one conversation we would rather somebody else owned. Nobody has measured how fast a published service fact goes out of date, what it costs the person at the end of it, or whether checking changes outcomes. We would rather that work belonged to a university than to us.
We asked Parliament for a standard that constrains us as much as anyone.
Our written evidence to the House of Commons Education Committee inquiry into the ‘Every Child Achieving and Thriving’ White Paper was published in September 2026. It argues that staff wellbeing is a retention issue rather than a pay issue, and that any wellbeing tool used on school staff should meet a standard of independent assurance.

Scope, stated plainly. devout.me is not a clinical or crisis service. It does not diagnose, treat or offer therapy, and it is not a substitute for occupational health, counselling or a GP. It works upstream of the clinical threshold, with clear routes out to professional support where somebody needs it. Phase 1 is adults aged 18 and over only.
